Celebrating the Human Form documents the developmental trajectory of Corinne Varón’s artistic journey, starting in the 1970’s and ending with her most recent works produced in early 2010. Remarkably, the spontaneous fluidity of the human body that she began exploring through paint, photo and sculpture as a recent émigré from Peru in the 1970’s remain fully and boldly present in her current works.
In her diverse body of work, Varón’s perspective remains focused on honoring humanity in all its aspects, from the physical, to the spiritual and emotional. In taking a tour of her work, viewers can come upon an expectant mother’s quiet moment of prayer or bear witness to the frenzy of a passionate embrace between lovers. The diversity in the manner with which she uses lines, space, color and forms reminds the viewer of the multidimensionality of life and divulges Varón’s revelry of the human condition.

Movements in the class include breathing meditation (Qigong), stretching and strengthening exercises, and an introduction to Tai Chi.

Don't miss this unique opportunity to see and experience the best of Chinese folk arts. Young and old alike will enjoy this magical afternoon. First, experience a dazzling and exhilarating display of traditional Chinese performing arts presented by the talented members of Boston’s Chinese Folk Art Workshop (www.folkartboston.org) .
The show will include drums, dragons, dance and more! The celebration continues after the performance with hands-on workshops in Chinese arts and crafts including calligraphy, Chinese knotting, rice-dough sculpture and paper crafts. Other workshops will allow audience members to try their hand at the diabolo (Chinese yo-yo) and ribbons, meet some of the dancers in their beautiful costumes and, for the brave at heart, experience a close encounter with the legendary and protective Lion! Photo opportunities will abound.
This uplifting and inspiring show takes place on Saturday, March 13 at Swampscott High School, 200 Essex Street, Swampscott, at 3:00 p.m.
Tickets for Year of the Tiger are $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults. Under 2 yrs. is free. Tickets will be available at the door. Many workshops are free; there will be a nominal materials fee of $1 for some of the crafts. Proceeds benefit Swampscott HS students' travel to China.

Swampscott Massachusetts is a small scenic seaside community located north of Boston and is home to a large number of commuters who board the train each morning from one of the last remaining Victorian style depots in the country.
There are actually many other interesting and historic buildings situated in Swampscott. They include Marian Court once known as White court which was the summer residence of Calvin A. Coolidge and a Georgian style town hall which was the former home of Elihu Thompson who was the founder of the General Electric Company.
Swampscott beaches attract visitors of all ages who enjoy their refreshing ocean breezes. Fisherman’s Beach provides a picturesque view of Swampscott Harbor with its many brightly colored fishing vessels and pleasure boats. Swampscott is responsible for two major contributions to the fishing industry-the Swampscott dory and the lobster pot. These are both still used by fishermen world wide.
